In the mood for a nerd boner? “Yes.” You say? Then it’s your lucky day! Joey Mariano or as he’s known in the chiptune scene (is there really a chiptune scene?), Animalstyle is set to release his newest album, Teletime, on NES cartridge. You might be thinking, “WHAAAAT, ON NES CARTRIDGE?” because I know I was. And yes, folks this album is being released in a very limited quantity of about 50 NES carts.

Since Teletime has not yet been released, and because I don’t own an NES console anymore, I got my first taste of Animalstyle by listening to the Open Air EP ,which is available for free at 8bitpeoples.com. And let me tell you, this album is cool! Seemingly effortless mixes of electronic and Game Boy generated beats with guitar parts showcase Mariano’s talent in this niche of the music world.

Chiptunes are old hat for Mariano. Animalstyle has been featured on seven compilations, released three full albums and two EP’s. No word yet as to whether or not Teletime will be released digitally or on CD in addition to the limited run of NES carts. If you spent a good part of your childhood blowing on cartridges or skipped out on Friday night plans to save Princess Peach than put down your controller and let Mariano serve as your metaphorical guide through the levels of gamer tunes.
